Also barely anybody our age would be able to tell you that Gillard tripled the tax-free threshold. 

Did she? I know the Henry tax review recommended the tax-free threshold be trebled (or, rather, increased to AU$25,000) and that there only be two tax brackets. But the key point there is that it was recommended, and never actually implemented. (That is to say, the tax-free threshold for the 2011-12 financial year is $6000. As it was for 2010-11, 09-10, 08-09, 07-08, 06-07, etc.) Unless I’m missing something…

She did, to be introduced on the 1st of July 2012. It was announced as part of the tax reform to accompany the Carbon Reduction Scheme.

Oh yeah, nothing like a good fact to clear things up.

This amuses me. If you don’t want a political debate on your posts, here’s a little idea for you, it’s called don’t post things about politics. Or even better, don’t post moronically daft things that demonstrate a significant lack of understanding of politics in Australia, things which are just crying out for sensible people to get stuck into.

Follow those little tips, and you shouldn’t be bothered by political debates ever again.
